The Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento has made its debut in California’s capital with a fresh, contemporary design from San Francisco’s Puccini Group and locally based designer David Lee. The 250-room boutique property has opened as part of the city’s Golden 1 Center in Downtown Commons, Sacramento’s emerging lifestyle and entertainment district.
The design was informed by the setting, highlighting elements inspired by Sacramento’s agricultural heritage and vibrant culture. Lush natural details like vegetated walls are balanced with angular furnishings throughout the lobby and public spaces. The exterior and lobby blur together upon arrival with the help of large glass walls that frame views and draw visitors through the space. A living green wall behind reception welcomes guests along with sculptural seating designed to resemble large golden nuggets in reference to the California gold rush. Guestrooms are crafted in a muted palette of natural tones and clean lines, accented with high-quality fixtures and furnishings as well as artwork from local artists. Topography-patterned upholstered headboards are designed to mimic the rolling landscapes of the state, further merging the indoors with the city’s natural offerings. Also housed onsite is more than 22,000 square feet of meeting space, spread across five meeting rooms and a second-floor ballroom with panoramic views and an expansive balcony terrace.
“Puccini Group set out to design an unforgettable hotel experience, merging Sacramento’s rich agricultural heritage with a distinctive urban aesthetic. We envisioned a property within a unique community experience that would become a hub of sports and entertainment and catalyst in making downtown Sacramento a new leisure and business destination,” says Rob Polacek, partner and chief creative officer of Puccini Group.
