The Kimpton Cardinal Hotel, the first luxury boutique hotel in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is expected to welcome guests later this spring. In addition to 159 guestrooms and 15 suites, the hotel will offer its visitors a unique rec room. With extensive options ranging from bowling to basketball to adult-sized slides, the space offers a venue for hosting events as well as team-building exercises.
Kimpton’s first opening in the Carolinas, the Cardinal Hotel is located in the famed Art Deco-style R.J. Reynolds building, which served as an early prototype for the Empire State Building. The building was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2014. Gold leaf, rich marble, and burnished brass are staples of the hotel’s design, honoring the building’s rich legacy. Tartan fabrics and bronze finishes meld with whimsical artwork to create a sense of mischievous Southern elegance. Named after the official state bird, the design also includes subtle nods to its namesake.
Onsite restaurant the Katherine includes a brasserie design with a modern polish, while event space including the Houndstooth Social Club and the Lexington ballroom—which can hold up to 245 people—are located on the mezzanine. Westward views from the hotel showcase the nearby mountains, as well as Winston-Salem’s downtown.
