Dallas-based interior design practice waldrop+nichols studio is set to unveil new accommodations for the Gulf Tower of the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort this fall in Naples, Florida. The beachfront property redesign will feature upgrades to its lobby and signature restaurant. The $8 million project draws inspiration from the resort’s natural surroundings.
“A quiet temperament of relaxed luxury was the aesthetic motivator,” says Andrea Waldrop, vice president of waldrop+nichols studio. “LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort has natural charm, stunning ocean views, and an easy-going attitude. The design needed to respond with pared-back yet elegant natural materials and a sophistication sans pretense that offer guests a calming and subtle environment connected to nature.”
The transformed lobby will also reference the native flora and fauna of Naples through custom artwork by Lorne Progosh of Iconic Design Concepts that depicts hibiscus flowers and monstera leaves. New terrazzo flooring will accent furnishings including luxe custom chandeliers, decorative painted console tables, dramatic wicker lounge seating, sculptural floor lamps, and accent tables. Gulf Tower accommodations will feature private balconies, oversized area rugs, and four-poster beds clad with Floridian-patterned textiles. Bathrooms will come equipped with backlit vanity mirrors and silver trimmings.
Onsite F&B concept BALEEN will accommodate a four-foot-wide sculpture by Spanish artist Sophie-Elizabeth Thompson reminiscent of a whale bone. The eatery will also be outfitted with new finishes of wicker, natural shell stone, and cerused oak paneling.
