Lark Hotels has announced plans to expand its footprint in New England with the acquisition of the Danforth in Portland, Maine. The company’s second Portland property is poised for a full renovation in 2020.
First constructed in 1823 as a private mansion, the Danforth honors its roots through artwork and vintage touches. White gallery walls brighten the space with support from expansive windows that flood light into large common areas where architectural details, textured fabrics, and soft color accents abound. In addition to an indoor-outdoor lounge, the hotel houses a private events F&B space that hosts more than 60 guests.
Crafted during Prohibition, a former speakeasy now functions as an underground billiards room, wrapped in opaque-stained glass windows. A grand cupola crowns the property, with built-in benches overlooking tree-lined Danforth Street as well as the enclosed private gardens onsite.
Nine guestroom configurations include the expansive West End suite as well as king and queen rooms. A larger, family-friendly option, the Peninsula Family room, is appointed with a pull-out sleeper sofa.
