Wilson Associates has completed the refurbishment of famed Paris hotel Le Scribe Paris Opéra for Sofitel Hotels & Resorts. The renovation first kicked off in April 2018 and was completed in three phases.
Accentuating many of its existing details, the historic 19th-century property grandly reemerges with its original splendor in the city’s Opéra district. “We created a design scheme that places guests at the center of Le Scribe’s spirit and channeled the hustle and bustle of Paris around the time of the Second Empire, when this location was at its prime,” explains Tristan Auer, principal for the Paris Atelier of Wilson Associates. “We also took cues from renowned architect and urban planner Baron Haussmann, giving the guest rooms and suites a typically Parisian feel.”
Echoing the aesthetic of a men’s club, a masculine design ethos characterizes much of the update, although more feminine elements abound in the guestrooms and tearoom. Ornate references to the city’s design hallmarks also manifest—with bas-reliefs, medallions, and vases evocative of an artist’s studio. Locally sourced abstract works by young artists adorn the walls as well.
The luxe accommodations nod to Parisian apartments with fireplaces, striking moldings, wainscoting, and upholstered fabric headboards. Private bathrooms are also lined with terrazzo floors and upper wooden moldings, while folding screens, ceramics, and tiling further punctuate the washrooms. The bathroom ceilings feature reflect the colors of the Opéra Garnier as painted by Marc Chagall.
