International hospitality company Lore Group has announced plans for launching its first property in the U.S. in early 2020. Located in the Penn Quarter section of the nation’s capital, Riggs Washington DC will be housed within a landmark building that used to serve as a bank, and feature a design conceived by Lore Group creative director Jacu Strauss.
The property’s 181 accommodations will be adorned with terracotta- orange tones and brass plaque dedicated to the Juno Moneta, the ancient Goddess of Money, which presides over the building’s original barrel-vaulted lobby as well. Further emphasizing the design-driven aesthetic in the guestrooms will be bespoke headboards and wallcoverings, while the bathrooms will adopt a classic navy palette along with Italian Carrara marble.
The restored grandeur of the hotel’s lobby will be evident with expansive ceilings featuring elaborate coffers and the preserved architectural gems of the building, such as Corinthian columns and classical stonework. Custom furniture and artwork will span the bright environment, while the hotel’s onsite restaurant Café Riggs will echo the grand brasseries of Europe through a modern lens embracing sustainability. The new concept also offers a backdrop of panoramic views on the rooftop and will be home to the subterranean cocktail spot Silver Lyan, which will be located in the basement.
