The Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club in the Caribbean island of Belize is slated to join Hilton’s Curio Collection this December. Set upon 60 tropical acres, the property is home to 205 cottage and villa-style accommodations surrounded by coconut palms and tropical flora. Beaufort, South Carolina- and Miami Beach-based design firm StudioSky collaborated on the project with Amanda Lindroth of Palm Beach, Florida-based Lindroth Design.
Breezy guestroom interiors will feature lofty ceilings and warm, local hardwoods. Modern furnishings reinterpret the British Colonial influence on the island, while natural fabrics and eclectic touches further punctuate the spacious settings. Notes of color will provide welcome disruption to the white façades of the cottages, which will be conceived as framed tents.
The 22,000-square-foot Great House will serve as the nucleus of the resort, drawing inspiration from the glamor of early 20th century British colonial architecture. The lobby design will infuse heritage and tranquility through a modern lens, with mahogany bookshelves alongside tufted bamboo furniture, ceiling fans, and natural leather and rattan accents. The Great House will also be equipped with the restaurant Sotavento and a grand ballroom and wraparound veranda for indoor-outdoor events. The Bay Club will function as the main communal hub with its 15,000-square-foot pool, private cabanas, and sun loungers and hammocks shaded beneath palm trees.
Additional amenities will include the Hemingway-style Rum+Bean café and bar; the Gadfly speakeasy; grab-and-go Taco Shack; the health-oriented Hive; sushi concept JYOTO; and the chocolatier Mahogany Chocolate. The tapas bar Dirty Martini will arrive later in 2018.
