The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London is set to reopen its doors this December following a comprehensive renovation from Joyce Wang and Adam D. Tihany. The hotel will also reveal its renovated and expanded Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London when it returns in time for the holiday season.
Based both in London and Hong Kong, Wang led the transformation for the lobby lounge and reception area with an artful juxtaposition of contemporary materials and traditional finishes. Crafted in the shape of a closed flower bud, a glass chandelier will welcome visitors as the centerpiece of the new lobby, while an open flower blossom chandelier will be installed above the lounge to more vibrantly illuminate the space. Artwork will depict abstractions of the Plane Tree—the signature tree of Hyde Park—to complement the nature-inspired décor.
New York-based designer Tihany oversaw the redesign of the hotel spa, which will offer 13 individual treatment rooms, an Oriental suite endowed with two massage beds, and a water temple designed with traditional Chinese medicine consultations in mind. Two additional beauty rooms will also be created.
The hotel will reopen in its entirety beginning in spring 2019, when it will unveil new accommodations and reinaugurate its F&B spaces, including Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Bar Boulud, London.
