Located Austin’s the Rainey Street Historic District, the recently opened Hotel Van Zandt is the city’s first Kimpton property in Austin. It is also New York-based firm MARKZEFF’s first project in Texas. Opened this past November, it features 319 guestrooms, 41 suites, and 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The design is inspired by the charm of Texas lore and Austin’s local music scene. Upon entering the lobby, guests are greeted by brass horn-inspired chandeliers. Modern furniture is mixed with items from local antique vendors, while cozy coffee shop Café 605 is located adjacent to the lobby.
Guestrooms are swathed in blue and gray hues, and feature brushed bronze details and slightly worn wood. Curated local artwork adorns the walls, while each room has a view of either the city or Lady Bird Lake.
Music themed designs are scattered throughout the hotel, with music curated by Lauren Bucherie, the hotel’s director of music and social programming, fills every public room, and responds to the mood.
Onsite restaurant Geraldine, also designed by MARKZEFF, is a Texas-inspired offering helmed by executive chef Frank Mnuk. Located on the fourth floor, it doubles as an entertainment venue, and features a sound stage and a terrace.
