The Hotel Syracuse has reopened as the Marriott Syracuse Downtown following a two-year, $76 million renovation. Located near Armory Square and Syracuse University, the 261-room hotel will function as the headquarters hotel of the Onondaga County Convention Center, also known as the Oncenter.
Maintaining its original, historic elegance, the updated property features terrazzo floors and 20-foot-tall columns in the grand lobby, which also houses a restored front desk mural from the 1940s as well as the hotel’s original chandeliers from 1924. The original servidors, installed in the early 1900s for the seamless delivery and removal of items for guests, remain intact on doors throughout.
Also restored are all three of the hotel’s ballrooms. The Persian terrace boasts architectural detailing such as delicately arched windows, columns, and handpainted ceiling murals. A custom stage and hand-laid wooden dance floor accommodate up to 175 guests. The 10th-floor grand ballroom shows off its original balconies, floor-to-ceiling two-story windows, golden columns, crystal chandeliers, skyscape ceilings, and original wood flooring. The former Imperial ballroom has debuted as the Finger Lakes ballroom, and includes new technology to accommodate groups of 10 to 600 for conferences.
Eleven Waters restaurant will offer Finger Lakes-style bistro offerings while the Cavalier Room will provide cocktails and light fare. Shaughnessy’s Irish Pub and the Legacy Steakhouse will join the property later this year.
