New York-based Studio Robert McKinley has completed its third getaway in Montauk, New York: McKinley Bungalow Etna. Spanning 1,490 square feet, the chic and cozy rental space is populated with décor and modern furniture that can also be purchased by visitors.
McKinley Bungalow Etna departs from the style of its predecessors, as it maximizes the structure’s existing modern lines and low ceilings with a medley of earth tones, stone, and masonry to establish a strong sense of home. The gray limewashed slate exterior and sun-beaten cedar throughout the interior served as the jumping off point for the bungalow’s palette, which is anchored by sandy hues and sun-bleached blues often found in the garments of the Tuareg people.
Lined with polished concrete floors inspired by the weather bunkers laid across the Montauk coastline, the raw but casual atmosphere is accented by plush custom sofas and playful tiling in the kitchen and bathroom, while geometric woven rugs further infuse the space with texture and color. Furthermore, the footprint of the four-bedroom, three-bathroom retreat was expanded to create an oceanfront master bedroom and bath with a connected pergola.
