Construction has kicked off on Mohegan Sun’s $80 million Exposition & Convention Center, which is slated for arrival in the summer of 2018. The Uncasville, Connecticut-based property will span more than 240,000 square feet near the newly opened Earth Tower, aiming to accommodate more corporate and association tradeshows. New York-based firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) is leading the design of the project.
The forthcoming expo center will be column-free with clerestory windows to host an array of programming. A main circulation line will offer access to the pre-function area as well as the rest of the facility, nearly all of which will be sunlit via floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. The interior will recall the cultural history of the Mohegan Tribe with custom carpeting and light fixtures as well as pervasive Native American motifs. An outdoor patio will host guests in warmer weather.
All 18 meeting rooms will vary in size from 360 to 675 square feet, while a 21,412-square-foot ballroom and 1,263-square-foot boardroom will accommodate larger groups. A 3,600-square-foot wraparound terrace will also be attached.
