Journal Hotels and sbe have revealed their new hotel property, the Mondrian Park Avenue, in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. Outfitted by Philippe Starck within a former office structure from 1918, the hotel is crowned with five new floors added exclusively for the hotel, rounding it out to a full 20 stories.
The 189-key hotel is adorned with a vibrant character in homage to the property’s namesake, Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. Contemporary styles define guestrooms and suites, which are designed to maximize comfort with plush bedding, spacious bathrooms, and neutrally toned woven leather furnishings. Floating desks also allow a versatile transition between work and play. The 1,300-square-foot Piet suite evokes the qualities of a Manhattan penthouse, with two bedrooms, separate living and dining rooms, private balconies, and a wet bar.
Onsite amenities include sbe signatures such as the Mediterranean concept Celo, as well as the rooftop lounge and outdoor terrace Fifteen Stories. Subterranean nightclub Yours Truly is also accessible via a dedicated hidden entrance. Meanwhile, an elaborate artwork from Ara Starck welcomes guests in the marble foyer, inviting guests into the hotel’s curated art collection.
