The Moxy Chelsea will arrive in New York this fall as the latest lifestyle concept from Marriott and developer Lightstone. The 37-story building will house 349 guestrooms behind an industrial façade clad with a three-story living wall that reflects its setting in the Flower District of Manhattan.
Locally based firm Stonehill Taylor will design the building, while Yabu Pushelberg and New York-based Rockwell Group will collaborate on the design. The hotel marks the second partnership among the firms since their initial collaboration on the Moxy Times Square, which opened last year. Soaring 12 fee high, a greenhouse-style atrium will punctuate the arrival experience along with an LED art installation on the ceiling that flashes phrases ranging from “Good Morning, Stranger” to “You Love Me, You Love Me More.”
Check-in kiosks will be installed in the lobby in place of traditional reception, while a sculptural wood-cast concrete staircase guides visitors to the lobby lounge. The café on the ground floor will be joined by a restaurant and second-floor lobby designed by Rockwell Group to round out onsite F&B offerings. In addition to two meeting studios and a coworking lounge, an outdoor garden terrace will evoke a vintage Italian flair and include a glass-enclosed rooftop lounge on the 35th floor.
Crafted by the Toronto and New York firm Yabu Pushelberg, whimsical accommodations will be outfitted with 10-foot-tall ceilings, wall-to-wall windows, and a muted palette of warm wood-like floors and army-green mosaic tiles. Each guestroom will feature custom, modular furniture and walk-in rain showers with cheeky printed phrases on the tiles like “Wild Thing.”
