Marriott International’s Moxy brand has announced that it will open two new hotels in New York this year, joining its location in Times Square.
Located in Lower Manhattan, the 298-key Moxy Downtown will span 30 stories in a newly built structure near the World Trade Center. Slated for a summer opening, the property will be designed by local firm Stonehill Taylor. The lobby will greet guests with a 22-foot-tall atrium equipped with a large LED wall that will serve as a virtual window into the activity of the hotel’s third-floor play space, which will host workspaces, gaming, and entertainment throughout the day. The hotel will also partner with local F&B partners to ensure a neighborhood-style quality.
A little further uptown, the 349-room Moxy Chelsea will draw inspiration from Italian romance in the city’s Flower District. Rising 37 stories, the hotel will mark the second collaboration between Toronto and New York-based Yabu Pushelberg, local firm Rockwell Group, and developer Lightstone since their partnership in designing the Moxy Times Square. The architecture by Stonehill Taylor will complement the neighborhood with its raw, industrial exterior and soaring, greenhouse-style atrium. A flower shop will welcome visitors upon arrival along with a convivial trattoria and café, while the second floor will be home to a bar, coworking lounge, conservatory, and meeting studios. A glass-enclosed rooftop bar will crown the hotel, framing views of the Empire State Building, and retractable windows will allow the space to transform into an alfresco sky veranda as needed.
