The glitzy and gritty East Village of New York has welcomed the new Moxy hotel, conceived as a vertical timeline of the neighborhood’s many eras across its 13 floors by Rockwell Group, which oversaw the interior design, and Stonehill Taylor, which executed the exterior architecture.
Inspired by the various eras in East Village history, Moxy NYC East Village welcomes visitors with three check-in kiosks, crafted by local artist Michael Sanzone, who envisioned them as assemblages by using found objects. Striped tapestries cascade down walls and spill onto the floor, reminiscent of the wheat-pasted posters that wrap the cityscape. The 286 guestrooms and suites are cleverly designed to maximize space, and all feature commissioned artwork from Xan Padrón. Standing out as an entertainment accommodation, Suite Jane features equipped with modular seating, a boardroom-dining table, wet bar, multimedia lounge, and an adjoining queen bedroom.
Overseen by Lightstone and Tao Group Hospitality, the new Moxy spot offers four distinctive F&B concepts: Located in the lobby, the Alphabet Bar & Café features a terrace, coworking lounge, bar, and meeting studios, with plush seating and gaming options installed against the backdrop of a graffiti installation. The French- Mediterranean restaurant, Cathédrale and dimly-lit lounge, Little Sister, are set to debut later this month, while a rooftop bar is slated for a spring 2020 opening.
