San Francisco-based David Baker Architects and Healdsburg, California-based Myra Hoefer Design have unveiled a design refresh of the Hotel Healdsburg in Sonoma County, which includes a full update of the rooms and suites. The refresh follows a renovation of the grounds of the resort by landscape architect Andrea Cochran last year.
The design aesthetic of the 50 guestrooms and six suites is modern and fresh mixed with a sense of glamour. An updated color palette includes white walls with pale green-blue shutters, along with light blue accent details in blankets and custom-made ceramic cups and plates. Cloud paintings by Healdsburg-based artist Wade Hoefer include shades of silver, lavender, and gray. To enhance the rooms’ lighting, new floor lamps, sconces, and illuminated headboards with reading lights have been installed. All lighting systems are environmentally friendly.
Each room features locally made artisan furniture, including custom beds made from ancient Bay Laurel trees designed by Brit Epperson and Barret Karber of David Baker Architects, custom cowhide benches by Myra Hofer Design, harbor recycled wood bedside tables, and textured linen slipcovered chairs.
A large-scale panoramic photo of the Russian River, taken by Barbara Bourne, now inhabits the second floor courtyard of the hotel.
The most recent refresh comes on the heels of a renovation of the hotel’s lobby and pool. In 2014, Myra Hoefer Design added crescent-shaped sofas, velvet couches and pillows, faux emu chairs, hide stools, rough reclaimed lumber tables, and textured woven chairs to the lobby area. The color palette shifted to light gray, yellow, and white tones, with cloud paintings and large mirrors bringing in additional brightness.
In summer 2015, the hotel unveiled a newly designed pool and garden by Andrea Cochran, as well as new poolside furnishings. Furniture pieces include teak and mesh chaises and side tables large square umbrellas, and deep lounge seating..A custom zinc and concrete pool bar was also added.
Located in the heart of Sonoma wine country, the Hotel Healdsburg also features a 3,000-square-foot spa and Dry Creek Kitchen, a restaurant by Charlie Palmer.
