Located in La Paz, Bolivia’s vibrant Calacoto neighborhood, the Atix Hotel is set to open this month. Deriving its name from the Quechua word for “the one who thrives,” the 53-room hotel, designed by Stuart Narofsky and Jennifer Rusch of New York-based firm Narofsky Architecture, disrupts the European aesthetic of its surrounding area.
With a façade clad in locally sourced timber and Comanche stone, which formerly paved the streets of La Paz in the 1920s and ’30s, the parallelogram-shaped property is outfitted with expansive bay windows to immerse visitors in views of the Andean valley. The interiors celebrate Bolivian culture through both contemporary indigenous artwork and historic craftsmanship, including numerous spaces enhanced by original pieces from renowned Bolivian artist and photographer Gastón Ugalde.
A neutral palette defines the guestrooms, which feature oversized headboards and handcrafted furniture made from indigenous wood. The signature Atix suite is equipped with a large terrace and in-room Jacuzzi, and bathrooms include cool Comanche stone sinks and dark flagstone walls.
F&B options include the upscale Ona and the rooftop +591 Bar, which features an infinity pool, while the onsite spa features steam rooms and a dry room.
