The Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires’ Recoleta district has rolled out a slew of new suites and amenities across its uppermost floors. Led by architect Alejandro Otazu, the six-year renovation emphasizes sustainability with two solariums clad with green walls, terraces featuring vertical gardens, and 27 German solar panels that elevate the hotel with the distinction as the city’s first to use the solar technology. Hot water for bathrooms and the swimming pool is also be provided via solar thermal energy.
Spread across the hotel’s 10th and 11th floors within the former Roof Garden Hall, new terrace spaces balance classic and contemporary styles. The interiors boast materials like silk, leather, and velvet, illuminated by a delicate chandelier. Cubic lampshades and black and white photography of the city’s urban landscapes balance the sophisticated setting.
The hotel’s 15 new Lounge suites bask in abundant natural light via large windows allowing for a more spacious atmosphere and expansive views of the neighborhood. The design honors the building’s original French classical architecture, offset with contemporary furniture, fabrics, and pure wool carpeting inspired by the architect Ariel Levy who specialized in contrasting neutral and bright spaces. Bathrooms are clad in Carrara and marquina black marble. Automatic curtains and awnings are a fixture of each suite, with drapery crafted from imported fabrics in serene tones to ensure a cozy atmosphere. The unique Roof Garden suite spans 1,000 square feet and features its own private terrace and balcony.
Lounge suite guests have access to the new Alvear Lounge on the 10th floor. Preserving the property’s 1930s-style character, Calacatta gold marble span the floors of the bar, while the oak fireplace boisserie boasts a decapé technique. The 11th floor is home to the Alvear Roof Bar, which hosts the sustainably heated stainless steel indoor swimming pool and pool bar, and another space offers whirlpool baths.
