Tokyo-based firm Schemata Architects has crafted the latest unit for capsule hotels brand Nine Hour in the city’s Shibuya neighborhood. Known as °C (pronounced “doe-shi”), the concept teams old sleeping cabins with timber saunas across eight stories. The brand’s first renovation project aims to reinterpret the traditional capsule hotel through a contemporary lens.
Accented with retro touches like beige tones, the property includes 102 rooms for men and 60 for women in addition to separate saunas, which are accessible all day. Dark screed floors, plywood cabinetry, and understated furnishings populate the interior as well, while floor-to-ceiling FRP plastic adorns the space that links the shower room with the sauna area.
