Nobis Hotel Copenhagen has opened in the Danish capital at the site of the former Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. Redesigned for modern travelers by architect Gert Wingårdh and his firm Wingårdh Arkitekter, the landmark structure from the early 20th century spans 59,200 square feet and 77 guestrooms.
Nobis’ first property outside its native Sweden, the Hotel Copenhagen pays homage to the roots of the buildings by marrying old and new design traditions. Original architectural details like the grand staircase are preserved and restored, while contemporary notes make a bold statement in the form of natural materials such as marble, copper, stone, hard oak, and glass. A concrete reception desk welcomes visitors and offsets the palette’s elegant green and gray tones. Wrapped in a new façade of glass and copper plates, the hotel restaurant Niels is anchored with a modern kitchen and combines traditional French and Nordic gastronomy.
Each accommodation, including the three onsite suites, boasts soaring ceilings still adorned with original detailing. Soothing green and blue hues honor the palette, while chevron-patterned parquet floors are illuminated with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows equipped with crossbars. Modern seating is appointed in guestrooms along with luxe amenities and marble bathrooms that convey a finely grained, deep gray appearance.
