Following the success of Numo Ierapetra in Crete, Numo Hotels & Resorts will launch its second project, Numo Mykonos, at Kalafati Beach in June.
The design of Numo Mykonos
The hotel was brought to life by design studio Hotel IM in collaboration with Amsterdam-based architectural office What the Studio.
The design draws from the surrounding environment and the carefree era of the 1960s and ’70s, which shaped the island’s DNA. Housed in an authentic Mykonian building, Numo Mykonos preserves and highlights traditional Cycladic elements, evidenced in its curved architecture, the stone arch at reception, traditional built-in lounges, and striped floors in the bedrooms.
“In the common areas, the design is unified and extroverted, making the overall experience appealing, as if a good friend is welcoming you to his private villa,” says Hotel IM founder Ioanna Mitropoulou. “The minimalist Cycladic design was enhanced with new techniques, using traditional, local materials, such as plaster and granite dust, in new applications by local craftsmen.”
Celebrating local craftsmanship
Light fixtures made from reeds and rattan are inspired by traditional wide-brim straw hats, while handmade tiles line the pool bar and Italian clostrà (ceramic coverings) provide privacy and shade in gardens and balconies.
Various colored marbles—sourced from across Greece—are found throughout, including green Pocahontas from Argos used for the reception desk and the bedroom sinks showcase yellow marble from Thebes.
Guestrooms at Numo Mykonos
The property features 27 rooms that are designed with black and white striped marble floors, statement brass light fixtures, decorative ceramic objects, and sitting areas inspired by traditional Mykonian architecture.
The color palette pulls from the surrounding landscape with emerald and blue-green shades of the Kalafati waters, golden sandy tones, and bold strokes of orange and terracotta that reflect the island’s sunsets.
