Tucked into the terraced slopes of Castelo de Paiva, Portugal, Octant Douro continues to evolve its luxury experience with the debut of the House Collection. The residential-style expansion adds 20 spacious accommodations inspired by the region’s rich natural and architectural heritage.
The launch follows the hotel’s spring reopening, which introduced a refreshed spa menu, a redesigned lobby and public areas, and updates to the signature À TERRA restaurant.
A residential approach
With the addition, the hotel now offers 79 rooms and suites. This includes four split-level, two-bedroom residences with generous living and dining areas, and kitchens. Private plunge pools are also featured in three of the four units.
The remaining 16 one-bedroom accommodations include refined interiors, balconies overlooking the Douro River, intimate interior patios, and private gardens that echo the calm of the surrounding environment.
Designing Octant Douro’s House Collection
Designed by Lisbon-based architect and interior designer Cristina Jorge de Carvalho, the House Collection places local craftsmanship and materials centerstage, with Portuguese schist stone, wood, corten steel, and handcrafted tiles grounding the design in regional tradition.
A palette of earthy tones pays homage to the Douro Valley’s terraced hillsides and flowing river, while clean-lined forms and understated luxury reflect Octant’s modern hospitality ethos.
“I wanted each space to embody a sense of understated luxury, where architecture and interior design work together to provide a tranquil, immersive experience,” says Jorge de Carvalho. “Large openings frame breathtaking views, natural textures create warmth, and a carefully curated palette mirrors the ever-changing hues of the landscape.”
She adds: “Sustainability was a fundamental pillar of the project. From the integration of natural ventilation systems to the use of locally sourced materials, every decision was made with a commitment to preserving the environment while enhancing the guest experience.”
