Harris County, Texas-based practice Paradigm Design Group has unveiled its multimillion-dollar renovation of the Kansas City Airport Marriott. The Art Deco-style space was fully remodeled to evoke a midcentury-meets-the Midwest character.
Original walls were razed while ceilings were heightened and new windows were installed to maximize lake views. The hotel’s main stairwell was also enlarged to frame views of the main entrance throughout the building. Bold geometric patterns were employed to balance neutral tones and clean lines, while warmer notes of orange and rust are featured in homage to Kansas City’s famed barbecue and spices. Hues of blue also appear throughout the interior in reference to both the state bird—the Eastern Bluebird—and the city’s baseball team, the Kansas City Royals. Finally, new artwork and custom, sculptural light fixtures are newly installed to recall the artistic roots of the firm.
