Detroit’s Corktown Hotel will reopen in January as the new Trumbull and Porter hotel.
Having debuted as a Holiday Inn during the 1960s, the property was later rebranded as the boutique Corktown Inn, a nod to the city’s predominantly Irish Corktown neighborhood, before remerging as Corktown Hotel.
The 144-room Trumbull and Porter is located near Ford Field, Joe Louis Arena, Comerica Park, and Detroit Riverwalk.
The property will debut following a $9 million renovation, led by locally based Patrick Thompson Design, to include all guestrooms, F&B outlets, the fitness center, and outdoor spaces.
An original mural by local artist Don Kilpatrick will be added above the porte cochère, while words from late Detroit poet David Blair will greet guests in the lobby. A courtyard behind the hotel will be converted to a music and art venue.
Other hotel amenities will include a beer garden; a private dining room, dubbed the Steak Room; meeting space; and bicycles for guest use.
The full-service Red Dunn restaurant and Burroughs Lounge will open soon after the hotel’s launch.
