The oceanfront Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi has debuted on the tranquil Malaysian island ensconced in tropical flora along the banks of the Andaman Sea. Designed by Philippe Villeroux of Kuala Lumpur-based practice Tropical Area Architects, the resort immerses guests in the natural ecosystem of the island and reflects the vibrancy of its traditional villages.
The resort comprises 70 guestrooms, 15 suites, and 29 villas that each reference the island’s Malay architecture through intricate features like large windows and gabled roofs. Vertical lines in each room fully integrate the living spaces into the surrounding jungle, while upscale overwater villas frame panoramic ocean views. The spacious Villa Mutiara accommodates multigenerational families of up to eight, and boasts two pools and a private beach.
Guests are greeted by the property’s Walkway of Wishes entrance, a water fountain feature that draws inspiration from the island’s mythical wish granter Tasik Dayang Bunting. Four distinctive dining concepts are housed onsite including the versatile Langkawi Kitchen, the Beach Grill, and the Chinese seafood option Hai Yan.
The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Langkawi hosts five cocoon-shaped pavilions resembling Malay Bubus, the intricate woven fish traps used by local fisherman. Additional facilities include an outdoor tennis court, fitness center, indoor-outdoor yoga studios, and an infinity pool.
