The Hudson Valley retreat, Hotel Kinsley, has debuted in Upstate New York, in the town of Kingston. Comprising four restored historic buildings dating from 1688 to the late-19th century, its transformation was overseen by New York-based design firm Studio Robert McKinley. The 43-room structure is also the latest from retail development firm, CBSK Ironstate.
Studio Robert McKinley brought the interiors to life by taking cues from each property’s distinct architectural details, such as centuries-old tile work and tin ceilings. Former bank 301 Wall Street has been renovated to accommodate 10 guestrooms. Here, clean lines reflect the Scandinavian influence of the interior, from the treatment room and sauna to the upstairs bar and lounge. Restaurant Kinsley is also located here and is run by restaurateur Taavo Somer.
Set to open this fall, the other property on 41 Pearl Street, built in the 1680s by Dutch settlers, is anchored by a central staircase and has 13 guestrooms, which are all equipped with built-in fireplaces.
Spread across three stories, the 13-room 270 Fair Street building features a ground floor retail space and an outdoor deck, and will also arrive in the fall. The fourth building, 24 John Street, will be introduced in 2020. A former single-family cottage, the eight-room building will boast original details like scalloped shingles, stained glass, and cornices.
