Rockwell Group has unveiled Greek seafood concept Avra Madison Estiatorio in Manhattan. Co-owned by the TAO Group, the upscale, two-level restaurant reinterprets the rustic qualities of a classic Mediterranean eatery from a modern lens.
Spanning 17,000 square feet, the eatery accommodates 207 guests in an open-air atmosphere, mirroring the aesthetics of a Greek villa, complete with lemon trees, imported limestone, and stonewashed walls. The naturally lit interior features a palette of white oak, Dolomiti white marble, and oil-rubbed bronze offset by custom artwork and greenery that create a serene urban retreat. The centrally located trees reach up to the recently excavated skylight, while a market-style seafood presentation is featured at the back of the restaurant with baskets of produce. Large bay windows at the entrance open to a 22-seat sidewalk café during warmer months.
A large, shallow reflecting pool is located at the center of the dining room on the restaurant’s lower level. Custom pendants and reclaimed log ceilings painted white add to the calmness of the level, which houses two semi-private dining rooms—one within a glass-enclosed wine cellar.
