Room Mate Hotels has opened its first property in Sicily, with the recent debut of the Room Mate Andrea. Overlooking the Aegean Sea, the brand’s fifth Italian outpost is housed within the Palazzo Platamone in Trapani.
Architects Filippo Terranova and Nicoló La Sala were tasked with the overhaul of the historic site. The Neoclassical design is contrasted with clean lines and geometric elements that infuse the aristocratic flair of 20th century Italy across the property. Original design hallmarks remain intact and restored, from handcrafted friezes to elaborate skirting boards, while the main staircase also shows off its original “alla trapanese” style. Delicate “morisca” stonework and a spacious lobby also amplify a unique sense of refined luxury. In addition to its 47 guestrooms, Room Mate Andrea features amenities such as a meeting space, bar, and sprawling terrace outfitted with a sundeck and swimming pool.
