Room Mate has planted its flag in France with the launch of the Room Mate Alain in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. Home to 50 guestrooms, the new outpost includes a design from Madrid-based designer Lorenzo Castillo that draws inspiration from the bohemian, intellectual, and artistic spirit of the Parisian neighborhood.
Evoking both classical and modern sensibilities, the Room Mate Alain welcomes visitors with a preserved historic façade just steps from the Champs-Elysees. The address, which Coco Chanel called home during the final years of her life, steered the opulent narrative of the redesign. Details include Chinese panels and Chanel’s signature color palette of pink, black, and gold with nods to famous expatriates like F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. Soft lighting from antique fixtures illuminates the richness of textures like velvet and silk as well as artifacts including the print collections of various French kings on the wall. In addition, Napoleon III Louis XV chairs are upholstered in silver velvet. Upscale amenities range from the Le Bar d’Alain on the ground floor to the fitness center and a fully equipped spa.
Room Mate remains on track to double its roomcount from 1,800 to 3,600 over the next 18 months with the rollout of 11 new projects.
