The Rosewood Venice is set to join the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts portfolio in 2020 as the company’s second luxury Italian property as well as its eighth in Europe. Located in the heart of the lively Cannaregio neighborhood, the hotel will debut within the 15th century Palazzo Dona’ Giovannelli.
The hotel design will preserve and showcase original details that convey its storied past across a refined and modern atmosphere. Roughly 50 guestrooms and suites will open onsite, reflective of the palace’s legacy while also embracing a backdrop of waterfront views. The main entrance along the Rio di Noale will evoke Gothic splendor and feature water access to the first of the internal courtyards as well as to the octagonal staircase. Striking frescoes, stuccos, and coffered ceilings will punctuate the main floor—or the piano nobile—alongside fireplaces and tapestries. Two signature dining venues will be installed alongside a piano bar, meeting and event spaces, fitness center, and a Rosewood Spa as well.
First constructed in the mid-1400s by Filippo Caldendario, who also designed the Palazzo Ducale, the structure underwent its first of two renovations in the 1800s by architect Gian Battista Meduna, followed by a second update during the mid-20th century.
