Set just outside the idyllic Greek village of Panormos, the brand-new Royal Senses Resort & Spa Crete is slated to open this June. The property, which is the latest addition in the Troulis Royal Collection portfolio, is located beside its newly renovated sister property, Royal Blue.
Greek firm Peppas N Architects designed the resort to embrace its rustic and tropical backdrop, while global firm HBA and London-based designer Constantina Tsoutsikou of Studio Lost oversaw the interiors.
“The landscape’s rough beauty creates a wonderful juxtaposition with the clean, minimal lines of the buildings,” say Nikos Peppas and Katerina Tsiolaki of Peppas N Architects. “We designed and positioned all buildings in such way that ensured unobstructed views to the endless blue of the Aegean Sea, wherever you are.”
Each of the 179 suites and villas complement their surroundings with outdoor terraces that frame the Cretan sea. The earthy interiors showcase local craftsmanship. Rough and smooth surfaces are juxtaposed to express the untamed nature of the island, and softly textured walls and cornices are detailed with subtle Cretan patterns.
“We wanted to create a destination that benefits local communities,” says designer Constantina Tsoutsikou. “I found a wealth of excellent craftsmanship and local techniques that informed the design as we went along. We created handcrafted bespoke furniture, repurposed items, objects and artwork that celebrate the artisanal skills of the islanders throughout.”
Leisure is promoted through onsite amenities, including a spa, four large communal pools, and 74 private infinity pools lined with loungers and cabanas. In addition to three restaurants and four bars, Royal Senses celebrates locally inspired cuisine and craftsmanship at the Marketplace, which will host a variety of pop-up food bars.
