Shanghai-based design firm MQ-studio has completed the new RuMa Hotel and Residences in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle. The contemporary, luxury retreat pays homage to the rich, local culture while also aiming to redefine the city’s sense of opulence with handcrafted furniture and artisanal pieces crafted by local designers Dato Sri Bernard Chandran and Joe Chia. The new-build hotel is home to 253 stately guestrooms and suites that frame views of the Petronas Towers and other city highlights.
A locally handcrafted bronze water fountain welcomes visitors enclosed in an interlaced terracotta birdcage just beyond the Moorish-inspired entrance of woven bronze screens. Two F&B spaces onsite include the SEVEN Bar and Lounge in the lobby and the ATAS Modern Malaysian Eatery on the mezzanine. An infinity pool and cantilevered sundeck overlook the Kuala Lumpur skyline, accented by a dedicated pool bar and lounge. Joining the 24-hour fitness center, the UR Spa is set to open in 2019 with numerous treatment rooms and a barbershop.
