Set on 73 acres of rolling hills and meadows in Kingston, New York, Hutton Brickyards is poised undergo a dramatic overhaul to become a hospitality attraction that maximizes its bucolic waterfront location. Salt Hotels has partnered with Hutton Brickyards owner Karl Slovin on the multimillion-dollar restoration, which will accommodate a new hotel, spa, restaurant, and events space. The site is slated to reopen in April 2021.
Home to 31 guest cabins and suites, the forthcoming hotel will promote outdoor recreation and indoor luxury with elegant touches that evoke a distinctive Upstate New York sensibility. Design references will pay homage to the region’s industrial past through a complementary vernacular. Red Hook, New York firm Kristina Dousharm Architecture will craft each of the 300-square-foot cabins and collaborate on the spaces’ interiors with Salt Hotels chief creative officer Kevin O’Shea. Wood-fired ovens and grills, relying exclusively on woodburning heat, will anchor the outdoor kitchen of the hotel’s sheltered signature restaurant. Among the onsite event spaces will be the Butler Pavilion, a sprawling outdoor venue equipped to host up to 4,000 guests, as well as Hutton Hall, the Lidgerwood Pavilion, and the Rondout Pavilion, which will accommodate up to 400, 1,600, and 1,300 standing guests, respectively.
