Los Angeles-based hospitality group sbe has debuted the completed the first phase of the transformation of New York’s Martha Washington Hotel into the Redbury New York. Debuted this week, the new hotel is the music-centric brand’s third location and the largest Redbury property to date, with 256 guestrooms, diverse meeting spaces that boast Juliet balconies, and onsite restaurant Marta by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group.
Along with Dakota Development and Avenue Interior Design, creative director and photographer Matthew Rolston looked to the music and colors of New York’s famous Tin Pan Alley for inspiration, incorporating iconic music imagery, historical photographs of the city, and paisley patterns and Oriental rugs reminiscent of the 1960s. Gramophones are scattered throughout to amplify the musical motif. The aesthetic also honors the design of the Redbury’s original flagship Los Angeles.
“Guests will step into a design filled with visual eclecticism, the feeling of soulful American pop music, and a warm and welcoming ambiance, says Rolston. “Even though my work is extremely diverse, the unifying factors in my hospitality projects have always been a strong sense of place and a special feeling of romance. I want guests to feel both stimulated and relaxed at the same time. That’s something we all crave, especially residents of and visitors to New York.”
