The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch, A Destination Hotel has reopened following a $10 million, multi-phase renovation by locally based firms PHX Architecture and SB Design.
Formerly Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center, the independent resort originally opened in 1976, designed by Scottsdale architect Bennie Gonzales.
The 326-room hotel’s Spanish architectural aesthetic and general amenities were refreshed and now include two new restaurants, a bar, a renovated main pool, new outdoor meeting and event space, upgraded guestrooms, new signage, an expanded open layout, and ranch-style landscaping.
Upon entry, guests are greeted by modern furniture, décor, and accessories, as well as the new Bar Six40—named in homage to the acres of land purchased in 1888 by Army Chaplain Winfield Scott that would eventually become Scottsdale. Bennie’s Courtyard, a residentially inspired social space named for the original architect, sits adjacent to the lobby’s entrance and provides outdoor seating for the soon-to-open Kitchen West restaurant.

Guestrooms and suites were redesigned with a hacienda feel, with many now overlooking fairways, gardens, and pools. Accommodations were additionally enhanced with new artwork, carpeting, and brighter color schemes. A selection of 20 first-floor rooms connect directly to the pool area.
The main pool was expanded and features Twisted Vine, a full-service restaurant and bar; eight new private cabanas; a shaded trellis; and modernized water features, such as a bridge-like structure dividing the pool.
A total of 80,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space is available and encompasses more than 50 meeting rooms. Outdoor facilities now feature one sport court and two event lawns, the larger of which was expanded by 10,000 square feet and now accommodates more than 1,200 people.
