Shangri-La, Doha, a 50-story hotel designed to resemble a falcon’s head, has opened in Doha’s West Bay district. Consisting of 272 guestrooms and suites, as well as 42 serviced apartments, the hotel offers a direct link to the City Centre Mall.
The hotel is adorned with museum quality artwork on loan from the Sheikh Faisal collection. Guests are greeted by a bottle tree in the driveway, under which stands a falconer in traditional garb with a bird of prey on his arm, as well as a cup of coffee made using a traditional nomadic recipe.
The guestrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the city skyline and the Arabian Gulf, and include spacious marble bathrooms with soaking tubs. The Horizon Club, located on the 42nd floor, is a private check-in for suite guests with 360 degree panoramic views.
Other amenities include a lagoon-shaped pool surrounded by a 21,528-square-foot deck and shaded by 70 trees, as well as a health club that offers a fitness center, a sauna, and steam rooms. CHI, the Spa, is the first Asian-themed spa in Doha, and features an outdoor hydrotonic pool and eight treatment rooms. The hotel also has nine function spaces, including the pillar-less Shangri-La ballroom.
The seven F&B outlets include Sridan, an all-day dining experience; Fuego, which recreates an Argentine pampas; Yabby, a seafood restaurant; the Shanghai Club, a restaurant located on a top floor that will be the city’s highest Chinese restaurant; and the Den, a European-inspired piano lounge furnished in polished wood and leather.
Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently manages 95 hotels around the world, with plans in development for new properties in China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka.
