Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort and Spa has opened on Hainan Island, China. The 340-room resort is set on 45 acres and marks the group’s first resort in mainland China.
In addition to a Water Park and Adventure Zone, the resort features two free-form pools; jogging and bike trails; a beach football field; and a volleyball court. Guestrooms are in the seven-story Ocean, Coral, and Palm wings and take their design cues from nature with hardwood floors, closet handles carved to look like seashells, and gold-leaf seashell artwork.
Restaurants include Kon Tiki, whose menu plays homage to Sanya’s nickname as the “Hawaii of China.” Kon Tiki offers flavors from the South Pacific and draws inspiration from Polynesian culture. The all-day dining restaurant, Chuyi Wutai, serves authentic Chinese home-style cuisine along with international fare across six open kitchens. The 366-seat restaurant has its own kid’s corner with a buffet designed specifically for children. S.E.A. restaurant, the Lobby Lounge, and the Dragonfly Bar wrap up the F&B options.
Inspired by island paradises from around the globe, the resort’s design uses elements found in nature and the tropics. The open-air lobby is decorated in neutral tones as well as ceiling fans, stone and woodcarvings, floral patterns, and tropical plants.
The resort also offers a 16,145-square-foot ballroom and 10 breakout function spaces. The resort’s CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La, and eight two-story villas will open later this year.
