The Shinola Hotel is set to open its doors in January 2019 as the centerpiece of Detroit’s historic Woodward Avenue commercial district. New York-based design firm Gachot Studios collaborated on the design with local practice Kraemer Design Group.
Launched by the luxury retailer and developer Bedrock, the 129-room adaptive-reuse property comprises two downtown landmarks—the former Singer Sewing Machine store and the former T.B. Rayl Co. department store—and three new buildings. A skybridge installed along the rear of hotel will connect all five buildings. The 129 guestrooms, in more than 50 guestroom configurations, are appointed with bespoke Shinola items ranging from desk clocks to throws.
The hotel is also home to retail options including a 1,600-square-foot Shinola store that opened in November. F&B options include Evening Bar, the Brakeman beer hall, Italian eatery San Morello, and fried chicken joint Penny Red’s. The Birdy Room event space will open on the second floor of the hotel’s annex as well.
