The Skylark Negril Beach Resort, sister property to the Rockhouse Hotel, has arrived along Jamaica’s famed Seven Mile Beach. At the threshold of 220 feet of pristine beachfront, the hotel evokes retro glamor reminiscent of the bohemian beach life of the 1960s and ’70s in Negril’s West End.
The vibrant, natural palette of Jamaica is interpreted through a modern graphic lens with architectural elements like whitewashed concrete, geometric breezeblocks, and natural wood grains. Vintage travel prints and splashes of color also punctuate the environment with a sense of place against a minimalist backdrop. Various design movements are referenced across the project, with decorative details such as Art Deco-style bamboo paneling, midcentury furnishings, Italian modernist outdoor furniture, and Memphis-style graphic patterns. Additional inspiration for the design is drawn from the island’s colorful residences, signage, and stones.
Each of the 28 accommodations feature an aqua marine palette indicative of the property’s proximity to the sea, while varying shades of green reflect the hotel’s lush native vegetation. In addition to 26 studio rooms, which are equipped with terraces overlooking lush greenery, two Ocean View Studio suites are housed onsite with private, furnished balconies. Amenities include the hotel spa, while the New York City-based F&B space Miss Lily’s will arrive onsite next month with designs from the restaurant’s creative director, Serge Becker. Upon completion, the restaurant will feature bold colors and vibrant patterns as well as vintage-style booths and sunny décor.
