Sofitel New York, the Accor brand’s U.S. flagship, has emerged from a sweeping transformation that draws from the shared Art Deco heritage of Paris and Manhattan.
The redesign by HBA San Francisco refreshes the hotel’s guestrooms, suites, public spaces, dining venues, and event areas.
A grand arrival
The arrival sequence introduces a layered interpretation of Art Deco. Open metal screens lead into a refined foyer, where a sculptural coffered ceiling featuring integrated lighting hovers above marble floors and deep green walls. White paneling adds contrast and rhythm as well.
Accommodations at Sofitel New York
All 398 accommodations were redesigned with French-inspired paneling, custom furnishings, and lighting.
Guestrooms are characterized by classic Art Deco tones of ivory, cream, and black, enlivened with red woven textiles. Lacquered furnishings nod to Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Eileen Gray, while beds become focal points with upholstered panels, striped wood backings, and brass pendant lights.
Upper-floor rooms frame skyline views through floor-to-ceiling windows, while marble bathrooms incorporate modernist artwork and rain showers.
The hotel’s 52 suites introduce a more residential sensibility, thanks to curated artwork, custom millwork, and dramatic lighting. A new suite collection adds seven oversized accommodations, including the 1,205-square-foot penthouse. Located on the 28th floor, the space features geometric Art Deco detailing throughout—from patterned floors to sculptural furniture and a black wood dining table set beneath a custom chandelier. The penthouse bathroom, meanwhile, combines contrasting marbles with brass accents and a circular freestanding soaking tub.
Art Deco continues in the public spaces
Public areas anchor the transformation. Social 45 Bar & Bistro is conceived as a contemporary Parisian salon, complete with curved brass archways, plush banquettes, and sculptural seating designed for all-day use.
Event spaces, including the Paris Ballroom, reflect the same design language with graphic carpeting, sculptural wall reliefs, and updated audiovisual integration.
