The transformed Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Ipanema will emerge as a renewed icon on Brazil’s Ipanema Beach at the end of the year.
As the Accor brand’s first flagship hotel in the South American country, the 172-room and suite property is set to introduce a new chapter of French luxury hospitality to the vibrant local landscape.
Quiet luxury on the coast
Reimagined by local architect Patricia Anastassiadis, the beachfront property embraces the natural and cultural setting of Ipanema. The hotel, situated with the area’s tallest building, will offer a 360-degree perspective over the city and the ocean that captures panoramic views of the water, iconic sunset, and the Dois Irmãos hills.
A natural look for Sofitel Rio de Janeiro
The interiors will showcase a curated selection of Brazilian design and contemporary art, with sculptural pieces and distinctive furniture complemented by works from Artur Lescher, panels by Heloisa Crocco, paintings by Teodoro Dias, and a selection of Brazilian photography.
Natural textures inspired by sand, sea, and sky anchor the aesthetic, alongside the warm tones of Rio’s sunsets and Brazilian ceramics.
“Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Ipanema marks the meeting point between a sophisticated atmosphere and freedom, and the French gaze that falls in love with the Carioca soul,” says Anastassiadis. “The project embodies lightness and warmth, creating common ground between Brazilian movement and French elegance.”

Elevated public spaces and amenities
Glass façades envelop the first three floors of the building, which features two entrances—one on Avenida Vieira Souto and another on Rua Maria Quitéria. A ground-floor bar with a balcony and direct street access reflects a distinctly Carioca way of living.
For wellness and relaxation, facilities include a longevity-dedicated spa, fitness center, and a rooftop infinity pool complete with a solarium and bar.
Meanwhile, on the 21st floor, Club Millésime will serve as Sofitel’s executive lounge, delivering dedicated butler service. The entire third floor, meanwhile, will be utilized for meetings and events.
Culinary offerings are equally expansive. The lineup includes a signature restaurant led by a Michelin-starred chef on the 22nd floor, all-day dining concept, beachfront restaurant, rooftop bar, and beach club.
