SonoLux has officially opened in Old Montréal, introducing Quebec’s first modern art hotel steps from the Notre-Dame Basilica.
Housed within the landmark National Trust building, the 36-key property is the latest concept from Épik Collection, and positions art, sound, and technology as the foundation of the guest experience.
SonoLux integrates rotating exhibitions across its lobby and all eight floors, with installations refreshed every six months. The artistic program extends into the guestrooms as well, embedding modern expression into every layer of the hotel rather than confining it to designated gallery spaces.
The project was developed in collaboration with Melatti Construction, with architecture by Geiger Huot and interiors by Zabb Design. Solotech designed and installed the audiovisual infrastructure that supports the hotel’s evolving exhibitions, allowing artworks to respond dynamically to space, sound, and movement.

Seeds of R/Evolution at SonoLux
SonoLux launches with “Seeds of R/Evolution,” an inaugural exhibition curated by Cheryl Sim, managing director and chief curator at PHI. On view through April, the exhibition features 10 works by international artists working across digital animation, video games, live action, and documentary media, with each piece serving as an invitation to contemplate, question, and imagine a more mindful future.
“The works presented in “Seeds of R/Evolution” remind us that together, we can transcend the challenges of our current time,” says Sim. “The artists featured are constant gardeners who inspire us to evolve through joyful acts of resistance.”
Anchoring the lobby is “the Cosmic Code,” a permanent generative installation created by Behaviour Interactive in collaboration with SonoLux. The immersive digital work responds to music and guest movement in real time, evolving throughout the day as it traces the origins of the universe and the future intersections of technology and humanity.
Art continues at LUMI and Subterra
Two dining concepts further extend the multisensory narrative. LUMI, located in the lobby, offers a seasonal menu by chef Graham Hood. Designed with intentionally discreet service, the restaurant allows the artwork and atmosphere to remain the focal point, creating an experience shaped equally by food, space, and presence.
Below ground, Subterra operates as an audio lounge dedicated to deep listening and musical discovery. In a dimly lit setting, DJs explore the roots of jazz, soul, funk, dub, and hip-hop, reviving works that have shaped music past and present. Subterra’s DJ sets and intimate concerts are curated by DJ Fred Everything, who also developed the hotel’s overall sonic identity.
