New York-based Stonehill & Taylor has completed the $30 million renovation of the Renaissance St. Louis Grand—now rebranded as the Marriott St. Louis Grand.
Opened as Hotel Statler in 1917, the historic Missouri property is located in the city’s downtown Washington Avenue Loft District and includes two wings: the original hotel, and a second wing across the street that once housed the Lennox Hotel, built in 1929. The hotels were joined with an added underground extension in 2002 when they together debuted as the Renaissance St. Louis Grand.
Reimagined with a new aesthetic influenced by the hotel’s burgeoning location, updated areas include guestrooms, the Greatroom lobby and bar, a restaurant, reception area, and 4,500 square feet of meeting and event space added to the existing 50,000 square feet.
The original lobby floor plan was reconfigured as an expanded communal space with a customizable layout that features wood, bronze, and porcelain materials that nod to the city.
While an abstract depiction of the city landscape provides additional intrigue near the reception area, a sculptural art piece featuring illuminated indigenous rocks hangs above allows a look into the lobby bar beyond.
Zenia Bar & Grille’s focal point is an acid-etched bronze mirror art piece layered with antique bronze framework, a tiered roof, and equipped with streetlamp-inspired light fixtures.
Rather than traditional artwork, the gray and beige guestrooms feature an accent wallcovering featuring a patina design with an industrial bronze sheen.
