Milan-based design practice Studio Marco Piva has been tapped to study the interior design of a model room and serviced apartment within the new Sichuan People’s Art commercial tower in the heart of Chengdu City. Installed in the central district of Tianfu Square, the new mixed-use complex aims to introduce a revamped understanding of how to maximize limited space.
The roughly 1,335-square-foot concept for the space draws inspiration from local nature and architecture of the surrounding theater district. Elegantly blending Chinese culture with traditional Italian style, the design references the theater world by embracing theatrical elements from a decorative scenographic tent to sliding doors. In addition to an earthen palette, regional nature is also highlighted with the use of decorative marbles and strong vertical lines reminiscent of bamboo canes. Circular furnishings including mirrors, tables, and lamps are also featured in homage to the traditional Chinese umbrella.
