Set to open later this year, Brooklyn-based design firm Studio Tack will oversee the design for the Chow Kit hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the maiden property of Ormond Hotels. Inspired by the spirit of the bustling city, as well as the late-night revelries that distinguished the locale in the 1970s and ’80s, the project will also be the firm’s first in Asia.
A fusion of local Malaysian culture and modern design, public spaces and all 113 accommodations will exude a mystery distinctive to the setting. Reminiscent of a casual parlor, the lobby will be endowed with elements like tufted banquettes and layered rugs, while the ground-floor Library on will be wrapped in handsome wallpaper that serves as an apt backdrop for private dining for up to ten guests.
The hotel’s rooftop will serve as a hotspot for drinks and a charming yoga space. F&B includes the Chow Kit Kitchen will also reflect the soul of the hotel, crafted in homage to the traditional Malaysian cafés called ‘kopitiams.’
