Katara Hospitality Switzerland has announced plans to launch the $494 million Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne next summer. Spread over 148 acres that overlook the Rigi and Pilatus Mountains, the property will comprise 383 guestrooms across four hotels,
Set upon a forested ridge 2,800 above Lake Lucerne, the resort’s hotels will include the 102-room Superior Bürgenstock Hotel, which will be designed by local firm Rüssli Architekten and London’s MKV Interior Design. Joining the Bürgenstock Hotel will be the revamped 108-room Superior Palace Hotel; the historic 12-room Taverne, housed in a structure dating back to 1879; and the 160-room, Matteo Thun-designed Waldhotel Healthy Living, which offers a restaurant, spa services, and facilities for medical checkups, amongst others.
Additionally, the property will house 67 residences, 13 restaurants and bars, a 107,000-square-foot spa and wellness center, and a meeting venue for up to 900 people. The indoor-outdoor Bürgenstock Alpine Spa will feature three pools—including a heated infinity-edge pool with mountain and lake views—18 treatment rooms, a 24-hour fitness center, yoga studio, restaurant, and wet areas. Onsite dining will include classic French cuisine as well as Asian, Middle Eastern, and Swiss fare. The Promenade will invite guests to stroll along a sculpture path and walk of fame, and learn more about the region’s history and biodiversity via the Cliffwalk. MKV will also craft the spa and residences.
The resort will be CO2 neutral, using an energy system to harness the lake’s water using hydroelectric power to operate all of the resort’s cooling and 80 percent of its heating. The surrounding 74 acres of forests and meadows will assist in offsetting carbon emissions.
