Oram Hotels and Azul Hospitality Group have announced the opening of the new Guild hotel in San Diego. The latest entry into Marriott International’s Tribute Portfolio is housed across a former Army-Navy landmark transformed by Sormeh Rienne into a contemporary, design-driven retreat.
First constructed in the 1920s, many details of the project’s Italian-Renaissance identity have been restored including the façade and exterior detailing. The site’s original stone staircase welcomes visitors to the lobby reception, where an array of intimate seating enclaves is installed atop herringbone floors.
In addition to outdoor space Grace Garden, the Guild Bar serves as the focal point of the space with a Brazilian leather quartzite countertop and custom millwork. The signature Mediterranean concept Luca stretches from the lobby into an outdoor courtyard anchored by a custom fireplace. A black and white color palette offsets greenery, while mirrors mimic the building’s historic windows.
Six guestroom configurations span the 162 minimalistic accommodations. Custom furniture, artwork, and carpeting complement high ceilings and bathrooms lined with a clean black and white palette in addition to oversized mirrors and rain showers.
The two-bedroom Rooftop Garden Penthouse crowns the hotel with a private rooftop terrace, custom furnishings, and private elevator.
