The $100 million, two-year transformation of the historic 400-room Hamilton Princess & Beach Club in Bermuda, which first opened its doors in 1885, is set to debut in June. Renovations include the addition of 43 guest suites designed by Bermuda-based Botelho Wood Architects, three new restaurants, an Exhale spa, a gym and boutique fitness studio, a private beach club, and a 60-berth marina.Â
The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club maintains its classic pink exterior. Inside, white walls in corridors and common spaces are adorned with more than 60 museum quality artworks by the likes of Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Yayoi Kusama, David Hockney, Jeff Koons, Alexander Calder, and Jasper Johns. They are joined by vintage Bermuda posters and installations by local artists.Â
The three new culinary venues include Marcus’, Bermuda’s first celebrity helmed restaurant, which was designed by New York-based Parts and Labor. Conceived by James Beard Award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson, the open-air restaurant is marked by a subway tiled 30-seat bar featuring teal high-backed stools. The bar is surrounded by midcentury wood tables, leather banquettes, and a private dining alcove featuring Andy Warhol prints of Mick Jagger. Hanging pendant lamps and drawings by Nelson Mandela are juxtaposed with Bermudian design touches such as nautical canvas sailcloths and vintage ephemera above the open-air kitchen.
1609 Bar & Restaurant, situated on the hotel’s new marina, features a marine-inspired interior with clean, simple lines and a natural sandy palette of teak and Spanish cedar. It is named after the year the survivors of the Sea Venture shipwreck settled Bermuda.Â
Crown & Anchor, the resort’s informal dining option, is marked by hardwood tables and historic maritime paintings.Â
The new Exhale spa and gym encompasses 5,400-square-feet, and includes nine therapy rooms, four manicure stations, and two pedicure thrones. The spa extends to new pool and poolside pavilion, which features five cabanas. Marked by decks made of Syrian limestone and azure blue-glazed tiles, the newly restored infinity pool overlooks the harbor. The adjacent 2,150-square-foot fitness center spans two stories.
The Princess Beach Club, a private stretch of beach available to guests that opened in 2015, is a short ride from hotel by private jitney.Â
The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club also accommodates business visitors and special events, with 22,000-square-feet of newly restored indoor and outdoor meeting space.Â
