The Henderson, a Salamander Beach & Spa Resort, has arrived in Destin, Florida along the state’s Gulf Coast. With architecture by Atlanta-based firm Cooper Carry and interiors by Kent Interior Design, the resort is located adjacent to 208 acres of state park reserves, offering guests sweeping views of the ocean and white sand beaches.
An Old World charm characterizes the 170-room hotel, which features wooden floors and reclaimed beams and trusses for a weathered look. Locally sourced artwork instills a sense of place, drawing guests into the surrounding environment with installations in intimate enclaves. An expansive living room in place of a traditional lobby includes high ceilings and a wall of windows looking out over the maritime forest and beach.
Guestrooms and suites enjoy a sense of place with custom furnishings inspired by the setting. Accommodations also include louvered shutters and balconies or terraces.
The Primrose restaurant includes an open kitchen, sushi bar, and outdoor terrace seating, while the octagon-shaped Horizons Bar affords guests panoramic views of the Gulf. Additional F&B options include poolside grill Sea Level and old-fashioned ice cream shop Sprinkles.
The Salamander Spa houses 11 treatment rooms, a women’s steam room and sauna, and a whirlpool overlooking the park’s trees. Specially constructed spa guestrooms have been furnished with the sounds and smells of the region to further reinforce the treatments inspired by the surrounding environment, and a sunlit fitness room and several pools are available.
Nearly 30,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor function space is featured onsite, including beachfront locations and a Grand Lawn. A dedicated event wing lends itself to flexible reconfiguration with the junior ballroom and the 5,220-square-foot Crystal ballroom, and the Sunset Vista terrace on the fifth floor is framed with beach and park views.
